BATON ROUGE — The LSU track team had another impressive showing Saturday in the second and final day of competition in the Tiger Relays at Bernie Moore Stadium despite the nasty weather that clouded the day’s events.
Both the men’s and women’s squads posted multiple top finishers in their first home meet since winning the Women’s NCAA Indoor Championship and finishing fourth in the men’s championship meet.
In individual running events, All-Americans Muna Lee and Lolo Jones grabbed first place in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, respectively. Jones, who turned in a time of 23.50, was closely followed by teammate Ranysha LeBlanc. LeBlanc finshed third in the 200 with a 24.41. LeBlanc was also second in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a 13.46. Zamyal Jackson of LSU was third in the hurdles with a 13.85. Katie Denton breezed to a first place finish in the 5,000 meter run, beating the rest of the competition by almost a minute.
Lady Tigers Hazel-Ann Regis, Nadia Davy and Stephanie Butler had a 1-2-3 finish in the 400-meter dash. Neisha Bernard Thomas and Brandy Walker also finished back to back in the top spots in the 800-meter run.
Althea Thomas won the 400 hurdles with a 1:00.84. The Lady Tigers also had first place finishes in the 4 x 100-meter relay and the 4 x 400-meter relay.
For the men’s team, LSU’s Jimmy Wiggins, Ryan Gallup and Jason Laine took the top three places. Kelly Willie won the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.94, followed by teammate Robert Parham in second with a 21.38. Marion Greensword also picked up second, clocking a 47.73 in the 400. Tomario Thomas was third in the 800-meter run.
In the field, the Tigers’ Joe Lochridge won the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 10 inches. Willie Bradley was second in the triple jump, and Lochridge and Matt Vincent were second and third in the discus.
LSU will travel west next week to compete in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
