BATON ROUGE — LSU catcher Leigh Ann Danos, Nicholls State pitcher Dione Meier and Louisiana-Monroe catcher Casey Goodman have been named Louisiana’s softball players of the week, the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association announced on Tuesday.
Danos and Goodman shared hitter of the week honors for the state. Danos went 5-for-11 (.455) with a 1.091 slugging percentage in five games last week for the Tigers. She had four doubles and six RBI in games against Jackson State and Georgia.
The highlight of Danos’ week came in the seventh inning against Georgia as she knocked in LSU’s first two runs in a five-run seventh inning comeback win over 11th-ranked Georgia. Danos opened the week with a 3-for-4 performance with a home run against Jackson State.
Goodman batted 7-for-8 on the week with three RBI and one home run. Goodman’s RBI in ULM’s game with Sam Houston State set a Southland Conference record for RBI in a season with 41. She failed to reach base just once in 13 plate appearances having a .923 on base percentage. Goodman ended the week with a .875 batting average and a 1.250 slugging percentage.
Meier, a junior from Canada, tossed a complete game shutout with 12 strike outs and only one walk against Georgia State. She followed that with three perfect innings of relief against Princeton for her first save of the season.
Meier appeared in three games last weekend at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic, going 1-0 with one save, boasting a 1.08 ERA in 13 innings of work. She allowed just four hits, two runs and two walks, while fanning 20 batters.
