Pat Henry Named National Coach of the Year

BATON ROUGE — After his women’s team won the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship last week, LSU head coach Pat Henry was named the Mondo Division I Coach of the Year, it was announced Wednesday by the Untied States Track and Field Association.

Henry guided the Lady Tigers to their second straight NCAA Indoor title as they toppled the field, scoring 62 points to second-place South Carolina and Florida’s 44 points. The indoor national crown marks the 10th in the Lady Tigers’ illustrious track and field history and the 24th for Henry at LSU.

His 24 national titles stand as the second most by any coach in any sport in NCAA history.

Henry’s Coach of the Year honor marks the third of his career as he also received the accolades in 2002, following the Tigers’ win at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and in 1995, when his women’s team won both the indoor and outdoor national titles.
