BATON ROUGE — LSU pitcher Brian Wilson and shortstop Aaron Hill swept this week’s Louisiana baseball player of the week honors, the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association announced on Tuesday.
Wilson, a junior from Londonderry, N.H., fired a 5-hit shutout in LSU’s 9-0 win over 16th-ranked Florida on Friday. Wilson struck out nine Gators and limited a team batting .356 to just five singles over the nine innings. The shutout marked the second of Wilson’s career and it ran his record to 4-2 overall this season.
Hill, a junior from Visalia, Calif., hit .571 last week for the Tigers as he went 4-for-4 at the plate against Florida in the first game of the series. Hill tied a school record with three doubles on Friday against Florida.
Hill opened the week by going 1-for-3 with one RBI in a 5-4 extra-inning loss to Tulane. Hill had one hit against Florida on Saturday and then followed that with a 2-for-4 performance against the Gators in the series finale on Sunday. Hill has now hit in nine straight games for the Tigers.
