COLUMBIA, S.C. — LSU opened the first round of the Lady Gamecock Classic in a tie for 11th place after shooting a 32-over par 320 in the first round at the USC University Club.
LSU is tied with Alabama and Texas A&M for 11th place in the 15-team tournament. Wake Forest is the leader at eight-over 296, four shots better than five-time defending tournament champion, Duke, at 300. Texas is at 301 and South Carolina and Auburn are tied for fourth at 302.
Even par rounds of 72 by Leigh Anne Hardin of Duke, Alena Sharp of New Mexico State and Kacy Thompson of South Carolina highlighted the opening day.
LSU’s Devon Day had the Tigers best score of seven-over 79 with Brooke Shelton and Vicky Meyer posted 80s and Isabel Dornellas was the last counting score of 81.
The tournament runs through Sunday.
