TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The LSU men’s golf team shot a 14-over par 298 on Friday in the first round of the Conrad Rehling Invitational at the Capstone Club in Tuscaloosa.
The Tigers are 14 shots out of the lead with 36 holes to play. Auburn leads the 13-team after shooting even-par 284. Kentucky and Alabama are three shots back at 3-over 287, Southeastern Louisiana is at 6-over 290 in fourth place, and Illinois is in fifth place at 8-over 292.
Senior John Humphries led LSU on Friday, shooting a 2-under par 70 to finish the day in a tie for third place. Brandon Aydlett shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 38th. Aaron Smith shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 45th place. David Aitchison and Alabama native Heath West are tied for 51st place after each shot a 5-over 77.
“We played okay today but just had too many mistakes which led to us putting up way too many big numbers,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “We need to get ready for tomorrow and try to make a move.”
The Tigers are paired with Purdue and Toledo on Saturday and will tee off at 9:30 a.m. The third and final round will be played on Sunday.
