BATON ROUGE — Heading into the NCAA Indoor Track Championships this weekend, the Lady Tigers and ranked first and the men are fourth in the latest Trackwire 25 power rankings, released Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers No. 1 ranking marks the second straight year they enter the indoor championships with the nation’s top billing. LSU sits in first for the fifth straight week and the seventh time this season, with 60 points, while SEC foe Florida holds onto the No. 2 position with 47 points. Stanford (46), North Carolina (40) and Texas (38) comprise the remaining women’s top five.
In the men’s standings, LSU moved up one spot from last week into a tie for fourth with Nebraska, as each team is listed with 31 points. The SEC owns the top three positions in the standings as Arkansas if first with 59 points, Florida is second (39) and South Carolina is a close third (38).
Individually, just two Lady Tigers are ranked No. 1 in their respective events in this week’s Dandy Dozen. Junior Muna Lee is ranked first in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes, while senior Marian Burnett tops the field in the 800 meters.
The LSU track and field team closes out the indoor season this week when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Championships, Friday and Saturday, March 14-15.
