BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Seimone Augustus, a freshman guard for the third-ranked Lady Tigers, was named the Southeastern Conference Newcomer of the Year and was tabbed second-team All-SEC by the Associated Press, it was announced on Tuesday.
Augustus led LSU in scoring with 15.3 points per game, pulled down 5.6 rebounds per game and connected on 55.2 percent of her field goals. She led the team in scoring in 12 games and collected 20 or more points seven times, including 22 against Arkansas in the second-round of the SEC Tournament and 20 second-half points against Vanderbilt in the tournament semifinals last weekend. Augustus was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 18 points per game in helping the Lady Tigers win their first title since 1991.
The Baton Rouge native also earned the Freshman of the Year honors and second-team all-conference selected by the conference’s 12 head coaches. Augustus and the Lady Tigers earned the SEC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and await the pairings of the 64 teams, which will be announced on Sunday at 4 p.m. CST.
