LAFAYETTE, La. — The LSU men’s golf team, fresh off their win at the LSU Spring Invitational last weekend, will participate in the Louisiana Classics Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at the Oakborne Country Club in Lafayette.
The Tigers fired a 4-over par 868 last weekend in Baton Rouge to claim the LSU Spring Invitational title for the third-straight season. Senior John Humphries won his first-career tournament by firing a 5-under par 211, and has three-straight top-10 finishes and has finished outside of the top 20 only once this season. He leads the team in stroke average, rounds played, top-10 and 20 finishes, and tournaments played.
“We are happy to be coming off of a tournament win and everybody feels pretty good, but we have to get back to work,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “We want to ride this good wave but also get our focus back where it should be and do well in this tournament.”
LSU will feature a lineup of Humphries, sophomores Heath West, Jeff Riemann, and Tucker Ervin, as well as freshman Aaron Smith. LSU, which has used seven different lineups in seven tournaments, will go with this combination for the second time this season. West shot even-par 216 to place in a tie for eighth at the Spring Invitational, his first top-10 finish this season. Riemann played as an individual last weekend but is making his first start since the Coca-Cola Tennessee Tournament of Champions in October. This will be Riemann’s sixth tournament of the season. Ervin will play in his fourth and Smith in his fifth.
Round one begins on Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and then the final 18 on Tuesday.
