BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will begin its second weekend in Southeastern Conference play when the Lady Tigers face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday with a 4 p.m. match at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
The Lady Tigers (7-5, 1-1 SEC) split their first two matches in conference play last weekend on the road, losing to Alabama and defeating Auburn. South Carolina is currently ranked 24th in the country and owns a 6-1 overall mark and is 2-0 in the SEC.
“This is a huge match for us because South Carolina is a very good team and every match in the conference is big,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “We need to keep our intensity and momentum from last weekend when we beat Auburn as we head into this match.”
LSU has posted a 5-2 mark at home this season and defeated SMU by a 5-2 count on Feb. 23 in their last home match. South Carolina is coming off a 4-3 victory over Ole Miss last Sunday in Columbia, S.C.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Sunday when they welcome the No. 1-ranked Florida Gators to Baton Rouge for a 1 p.m. match. Admission is free to all LSU home tennis matches and refreshments will be provided by the Tennis Tiger Athletic Foundation.
