BATON ROUGE — Louisiana-Monroe’s Kirby Lemons and LSU’s Collis Temple III share the Louisiana Sports Writers Assocation Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor, while Louisiana Tech’s Cheryl Ford wins the honor for the second straight week.
Temple III, a 6-7 senior guard, averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the Tigers’ wins over Auburn and Tennessee. The Baton Rouge native had 19 points with three 3-pointers in the victory over Auburn and had 23 points on six 3-pointers in the win at Tennessee.
Lemons, a 6-7 senior forward, led ULM to wins over Sam Houston State and Lamar. The Midland, Texas, native scored 18 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had a career-high five steals in the victory over Sam Houston. He then added 22 points and 14 rebounds in the victory over Lamar.
Ford, a 6-3 senior for the Lady Techsters, averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in Tech’s wins over UTEP and Boise State during the week. The Summerfield, La., native had 17 points and eight boards against UTEP and 20 points and 12 rebounds against the Lady Broncos.
