BATON ROUGE — After scoring a season-high 196.700 to defeat Arkansas Friday night the LSU gymnastics improved to 14th in the latest national rankings, released Monday. The improvement stopped a two-week slide the Tigers had been experiencing in the poll.
For the four straight week UCLA has earned the nation’s No. 1 ranking with an RQS of 197.980. Arizona State (197.285) jumped two spots to claim the nation’s No. 2 spot, while Alabama (197.205), Nebraska (197.180) and Georgia (196.855) comprise the remainder of the countries’ top five. LSU’s RQS improved to 195.915 this week.
The Tigers are also ranked among the top-20 nationally on each of the four individual events. This week, LSU’s top ranking comes on the uneven bars where the Tigers are tied with Denver for 11th with an RQS of 49.055. LSU is also ranked 14th in the beam (48.940) after posting a school record tying mark of 49.475 against Arkansas. In addition, the Tigers are ranked 15th on the floor (49.155) and 18th on the vault (48.895).
LSU returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts No. 5 Georgia in its final home meet of the season. Fans are encouraged to stay around following the conclusion of the meet as all the Tiger gymnasts will be available on the PMAC’s upper concourse for an autograph signing session.
