Newcomer Meyer Finishes 10th in Puerto Rico; LSU 13th

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico — The LSU Lady Tigers started in 13th and remained in 13th started after the final round of the first tournament of the spring, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue University at the Palmas Del Mar Course.

The Lady Tigers shot rounds of 309-310-313 to finish at 68-over par 932 to finish 13th in the 15-team field. The team did improve on its fall average of 318 a round in four tournaments.

Duke went wire-to-wire to win the event with an 8-over par score of 872 (291-288-293), 29 shots ahead of Georgia at 37-over 901 (304-299-298). Florida made it two-three for the Southeastern Conference with 39-over 903 (304-288-311).

LSU newcomer Vicky Meyer of Brazil made an impressive debut for the Lady Tigers with three consecutive rounds of 2-over 74 to finish at 6-over 222, earning a tie for 10th and a top 10 in her first start. Kristina Engstrom of Duke was the winner by three strokes with a 1-under 54-hole score of 215.

Rachel Overstreet had her best round of the tournament on Saturday with a 79 with Devon Day and Isabel Dornellas scoring 80 to complete the team total.

LSU next is in action at the annual Gamecock Classic at South Carolina, March 14-16.
