Women’s Basketball Ends Regular Season at Vandy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — LSU’s fourth-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team ends the regular season on Sunday when they visit Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. CST in Memorial Gym.

The game will be broadcast live on SEC-TV (Fox Sports Net, channel 37 locally).

LSU (24-2, 11-2 SEC) already has locked down the No. 2 seed for next week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament, but Vanderbilt (18-8, 8-5 SEC) is in the middle of a logjam for the fourth, fifth and sixth seeds for the tournament.

The Lady Tigers enter the game having won nine of 10 games, including closing out the home schedule on Thursday with a 70-57 victory over Arkansas. The Commodores enter the game having won five of six, but are coming off a loss at Tennessee on Thursday night.

Freshman Seimone Augustus leads LSU into the game. The Baton Rouge native is averaging 15.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and is coming off a 17-point, 11-rebound performance against Arkansas. Senior Aiysha Smith is next, averaging 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per outing.

Senior Chantelle Anderson, playing in her final home game of her career on Sunday, leads Vanderbilt. She is scoring 17.9 points and grabbing 5.3 rebounds per game, while junior Jenni Benningfield is averaging 16.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.

This will be the 25th meeting between the two schools. Vanderbilt holds a slight 13-11 series lead, but LSU won the previous meeting this season, 70-59, in Baton Rouge on Jan. 26. The Commodores also lead the series 7-2 in Nashville and have won three straight on the home floor against the Lady Tigers.

Following the game, LSU will travel to Little Rock, Ark., for the SEC Tournament that begins Thursday. The Lady Tigers will have a first round bye and play on Friday at 2:30 p.m. CST in the second round at Alltel Arena.
