Lady Tigers Golfers 13th in Puerto Rico After One Round

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico — The LSU women’s golf team stands in 13th place in the 15-team field after the first round of the 2003 Puerto Rico Women’s invitational Friday at the Palmas Del Mar course.

The teams played 36 holes on Friday and will play the final round on Saturday.

The Tigers shot rounds of 309 in the morning and 310 in the evening for a 619 score, 43 over par for the 36 holes. Duke is the leader after a 3-over morning round of 291 and an even par 288 for a 579 total. That’s 13 strokes ahead of Florida and Auburn, both tied for second at 16-over par 592. It’s another 10 shots back to Texas at 26-over par 602.

Purdue is the host for the event and individual scores were only available at press time for the opening round of the event and Brazilian newcomer Vicky Meyer with a two-over 74 led the LSU Lady Tigers. Meyer, tied for 11th after the first round, signed with LSU in the November signing period and joined the team at the start of this semester.

Devon Day was in a group tied for 19th with a three-over 75, while Isabel Dornellas shot 78, Rachel Overstreet an 82 and Brooke Shelton 85.
