GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The LSU track and field team began competition at the SEC Indoor Championships Friday as Kwami Roberts and Shamekia Louis participated in the men’s and women’s pentathlon at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Neither Roberts or Louis managed to produce points for the Tigers, however, both did notch one top-10 event finish. Roberts turned his best performance in the high jump, clearing 6-2 1/4 to tie for the ninth in the event. He posted two additional 13th-place finishes in the 1,000-meter run (3:03.99) and the shot put (40-7 3/4), while also placing 15th in both the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump competitions with marks of 8.40 and 20-1, respectively.
In the women’s competition, Louis finished a meet-best 10th in the shot put with a distance of 35-9 1/4, while finishing 14th in both the high jump (5-11) and long jump events (16-11 1/2). Louis turned in additional times of 3:01.90 in the 800 meters and 10.93 in the 55-meter hurdles to finish 16th and 17th in those events, respectively.
The LSU track and field team begins second-day action at the SEC Championships tomorrow as field events are scheduled to begin at noon and running events follow at 1 p.m.
