Gunter Named Finalist For National Coach of the Year

ATLANTA — LSU head women’s basketball coach Sue Gunter was named one of 25 finalists for the 2003 Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year, it was announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club earlier this week.

Gunter is in her 21st season as head coach of the Lady Tigers and has guided LSU to 409 wins in her career and 13 20-win seasons, including this year.

The 24 victories are the most regular season wins for LSU in a season under Gunter’s direction.

The Lady Tigers, ranked fourth in the nation, are currently 24-2 overall and have an 11-2 record in the Southeastern Conference, earning them the No. 2 seed in next week’s tournament.

The Walnut Grove, Miss., native is one of seven coaches from the SEC on the list finalist for the award that is presented by the Atlanta Tipoff Club and sponsored by Coca Cola. The winner will be awarded on April 11 in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center.
