BATON ROUGE — LSU’s fourth-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team hosts No. 3 Tennessee in a battle of the top two teams in the Southeastern Conference at Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

LSU (23-1, 10-1 SEC) enters the game riding a seven-game win streak, including a victory at Ole Miss on Thursday night. The Lady Tigers sit one game behind Tennessee (23-3, 11-0 SEC) in the SEC standings. The Lady Vols enter the game having won 14 straight, including a victory at home over Georgia on Thursday.

The match-up of No. 3 vs. No. 4 is the biggest women’s game in the PMAC since No. 3 Tennessee and No. 4 LSU played on Jan. 9, 1978. LSU won that game 72-62.

Freshman Seimone Augustus and senior Aiysha Smith lead LSU into the game.

Augustus is averaging 15.2 points and 5.4 rebounds, while Smith is scoring 12.8 points and grabbing 5.7 rebounds per contest.

Seniors Kara Lawson and Gwen Jackson lead Tennessee. Lawson is averaging 13.4 points and 4.0 assists per game and Jackson leads the team with 16.0 points an outing.

This will be the 36th meeting between the two schools. UT leads the series 29-6 and has won five of the last six meetings. LSU defeated UT 81-80 in the semifinals of the 2002 SEC Tournament in the team’s last meeting.

Following Sunday’s game, LSU will host Arkansas on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
