Trosclair Highlights Solid Evening at LSU Twilight

BATON ROUGE — An NCAA provisional qualifying mark by junior Daniel Trosclair in the pole vault highlighted a solid day of competition for the Tiger track and field team Friday at the LSU Twilight Invitational.

Trosclair’s meet-winning 17-6 1/2 clearance in the pole vault was a season-best effort and ranks as the 10th best mark in the nation in the event this season.

LSU turned in other solid performances in the field events as four additional Tiger athletes garnered first-place honors. Junior Joe Lochridge and sophomore Katie McKeever swept the men’s and women’s shot put titles, as Lochridge threw for a distance of 55-2 3/4 and McKeever turned in her second-best mark of the season, throwing 48-2.

Sophomore Mallory McDonald won her third weight throw title of the year, registering a distance of 62-3 1/4 to take home gold, while junior LaToya Payne topped the field in the long jump with her mark of 20-0 1/4.

Turning in a season-best effort of 5-7 3/4 in the high jump, Shontae Harris narrowly missed a first-place finish as well, earning runner-up honors in the event to Georgia State’s Kristen Pace (5-8 3/4).

On the track, Lolo Jones and the men’s 4×400-meter relay were the only Tigers to take home gold. Jones won her second 60-meter title of the season, topping the field with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.39, while the quartet of Anthony Ewers, Bennie Brazell, Kelly Willie and Pedro Tunon clocked 3:13.95 in the 4×400 to take top honors.

The LSU track and field team will return to action next weekend when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., for the SEC Indoor Championships, March 1-2.
