BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Aiysha Smith and Louisiana Tech’s Lavelle Felton have been selected as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Players of the Week for women’s and men’s basketball for their efforts this past week.
Smith, a 6-2 senior post player for the Lady Tigers, helped LSU to a pair of victories last week, including scoring a career-high 30 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 51 minutes in the 94-90 triple overtime win over UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday. The Detroit, Mich., native, who also earned the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors, added 10 points and three rebounds in LSU’s win over Alabama.
Felton, a 6-5 senior for the Bulldogs, led Tech to three victories during the week, averaging 20.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 38.7 minutes in the three wins. The Milwaukee, Wisc., native connected on 72.7 percent of his shots from the floor and 66.7 percent from three-point range, hitting 10 of 15 from outside the arc.
This is the second time both Smith and Felton have earned the weekly honor.
Each received the honor on Jan. 8th.
