COLLEGE STATION, Texas — After winning the doubles point to open the match, the LSU women’s tennis team couldn’t hold on in singles, falling to Texas A&M, 5-2, Saturday in College Station, Texas.
The Lady Tigers fell to 5-2 on the year while the Aggies improved to 3-3.
Daysi Espina and Camila Caliari got the winning going for LSU at No. 3 by beating Nicki Mechem and Seva Iwinski, 8-4. Amanda Mang and Jessica Ferguson then clinched the point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 over Jessica Roland and Roberta Spencer.
The 60th-ranked team of Rocio Fantili and Lauren Seeman fell at No. 1 to Ashley Hedberg and Lauren Walker, 9-8.
After trailing 1-0 Texas A&M made quick work of the Lady Tigers in singles, winning four matches in straight sets on courts two through five. Walker beat Marina Chiarelli, 7-6 (5), 6-2, to clinch the match at No. 4.
LSU’s only singles point came from No. 6 where Caliari beat Iwinski, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
The best match of the day came from the top spot where the 108th-ranked Roland outlasted Fantili, ranked 116th, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
