BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will look to pick up its second straight road win when it faces Texas A&M at College Station on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The match will take place simultaneously with the men’s match at the Texas A&M Tennis Center.
LSU (5-1) dominated Houston on Monday en route to a 7-0 victory in its first road challenge of the year. The Aggies (2-3) are coming off a hard-fought 4-3 win over Wisconsin at the Women’s National Indoor Championships.
The Tigers and Aggies have met every season since 1992, LSU coach Tony Minnis‘ first year at the helm. Since then, A&M has a 7-4 advantage in the series, including wins in six of the past seven seasons.
Despite the lopsided record of late in the series, the matches have always proven to be close as four of the last six meetings have been decided by one point.
“We always have a tough match with Texas A&M,” said Minnis. “It always seems to come down to the last court and a couple of big points here and there. The key for us will be to stay mentally focused and to win those points.”
Lauren Walker and Jessica Roland, ranked No. 107 and 108 in the nation, lead the Aggies into battle while No. 116 Rocio Fantili paces LSU. The youthful Tigers are expected to start three freshmen in the lineup as well.
“It’s tough to have such a young team go into a tough environment like Texas A&M and win,” said Minnis. “But I think we have a lot of talent from No. 1 to No. 6 and we can match up with them.”
