BATON ROUGE — LSU’s fourth-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team returns home after a two-game road swing to host Alabama in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The game will be broadcast live on Cox Sports Television, cable channel 38 locally in Baton Rouge.
LSU (20-1, 8-1 SEC) enters the game riding a five-game winning streak, including four straight over Top 20 teams. The Lady Tigers defeated No. 16 South Carolina last Thursday and No. 12 Mississippi State on Sunday.
Alabama (11-11, 1-8 SEC) has dropped four straight games since their lone conference victory at Ole Miss on Jan. 26th.
Freshman Seimone Augustus leads the Lady Tigers. The 6-1 Baton Rouge native is averaging 15.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and is posting 17.0 points per outing in the SEC. Senior Aiysha Smith is not far behind, averaging 11.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.
Beth Vice and Jamilah Johns lead the Crimson Tide. Vice is averaging 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while making a team-high 57 three-point baskets. Johns, a former LSU player, is scoring 1.2 points per game and grabbing 8.3 rebounds a game.
This will be the 36th meeting between the two conference rivals. LSU holds a slight 19-16 advantage, but Alabama has won two of the last three meetings.
LSU leads the series 13-3 in Baton Rouge.
Following the game, LSU will host non-conference foe Santa Barbara on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a battle of two top 20 teams.
Prior to Saturday’s game, there will be a cheerleading clinic hosted by the LSU Cheerleaders from noon until tipoff in the PMAC Auxilary Gym.
