Lloreda Suspended by SEC for One Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Upon review of game tapes of the men’s basketball game between LSU and Florida, played in Baton Rouge, La., on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has announced that LSU center/forward Jaime Lloreda has been suspended for the Feb. 1 LSU at Alabama game.

This action was the result of a flagrant, unsportsmanlike act which occurred during the second half of the LSU-Florida game.

This action is taken in accordance with Southeastern Conference Constitution, Article 4.4.3 (d) which states that a student-athlete may be suspended if it is determined that the student-athlete has committed a flagrant or unsportsmanlike act.

BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball coach John Brady issued the following statement following Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive’s announcement of a one-game suspension for LSU forward Jaime Lloreda:

“Obviously, the suspension on Jaime for the Alabama game will hurt the opportunity of our team playing its best. In spite of that, we all need to be held accountable for our actions, and in this case, Jaime, along with every player who plays in our conference, realizes there are consequences that will occur when inappropriate behavior takes place.

“We imposed what we thought was in order to teach Jaime a lesson and although the league agreed, they wanted to take it a step further. I support the commissioner and want what is best for our league. Our team will be challenged for each individual to do a little more to absorb Jaime’s absence for this game. We will more forward and grow from the experience.”
