Tiger Duo Named SEC Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Track’s Muna Lee Named SEC Athlete of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Muna Lee of the LSU track and field team was named the SEC’s Female Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday, it was announced by the conference office. The award marks Lee’s third SEC Athlete of the Week honor as she was won the award in back-to-back weeks last season.

Lee, a junior from Kansas City, Mo., was honored for her record setting performance in the 60-meter dash at the Purple Tiger Invitational over the weekend. She turned in a blistering time of 7.20 in the event to not only set a new LSU school record, but also a Carl Maddox Fieldhouse record. The previous school record of 7.21 seconds was held by Lee and Olympian D’Andre Hill.

Lee’s NCAA leading time also secured her an automatic bid to the indoor national championships in the event. It marks the second event in which Leehas qualified for the NCAA Championships, as she posted an automatic qualifying mark in the 200 meters (23.45) two weeks ago at the season opening SEC West Challenge in Fayetteville, Ark.

Lee and the rest of the LSU track and field return at action Friday at the Bayou Bengal Invitational in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
