BATON ROUGE — A new version of the “Intimidator” billboard is now on display above the right-field wall of Alex Box Stadium.

The billboard depicts LSU’s five NCAA baseball titles and features the image of a roaring Tiger against a panoramic background of the stadium.

The billboard also features a tribute to the late Wally Pontiff Jr., a 2002 Academic all-American and two-time all-SEC third baseman who died last summer due to heart abnormalities. An image of Pontiff, who wore jersey No. 31, appears on the left side of the billboard above a logo that reads, “31 WALLY.”

The 2003 LSU team will wear the same logo on the backs of their game caps.

The 2003 version of the billboard was designed by Marie Brewer, graphic artist for the LSU athletics department. The billboard was manufactured and installed by the Lamar Company of Baton Rouge.

LSU fans will have their first opportunity to see the billboard on Saturday, when the Tigers play host to their annual Alumni Game at 4 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium. The 2003 LSU team will face a squad of former Tigers who are active in professional baseball.

Tickets for the Alumni Game are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-12.

Call the LSU ticket office at (225) 578-2184 for information.

The Alumni Game culminates “Opening Day 2003,” a series of activities on Saturday sponsored by the Tiger Baseball Alumni Foundation. The day begins at 9 a.m. with the annual YMCA Baton Rouge Kids’ Clinic and features other events, including an autograph session and a home run derby.
