BATON ROUGE — For the second straight week both LSU’s men’s and women’s track teams are ranked No. 1 in the Trackwire 25 power rankings.
The Lady Tigers sit comfortable atop the nations elite with 64 points, while Florida is the nearest competitor with 48 points. South Carolina (47), Texas (39) and UCLA (38) round out the top five.
On the men’s side, LSU holds a commanding lead over the competition with 69 points to No. 2 Arkansas’ 56 points. South Carolina is listed at the No. 3 spot (28), while Tennessee (27) and Stanford (25) are fourth and fifth, respectively.
Individually, LSU has several athletes listed among Trackwire’s Dandy Dozen, a weekly power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event.
Junior All-American Muna Lee headlines the Lady Tiger squad receiving top billing in both the 60 meters and the 200 meters this week. Nicole Toney, the defending indoor national champion in the triple jump, is also ranked first in her signature event.
For the Tigers, the 4×400-meter relay team of Pete Coley, Marlon Greensword, Bennie Brazell and Kelly Willie are ranked first in the nation after clocking an NCAA-leading 3:06.54 at the SEC West Challenge over the weekend.
Also leading the NCAA in their respective events are LeJuan Simon and Robert Parham. Simon earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with a distance of 53-9 1/4 in the triple jump, while Parham provisionally qualified in the 200 meters, clocking 20.91.
The LSU track and field team opens the home schedule Saturday, hosting the Purple Tiger Invitational at the Carl Maddox Field House.
