On the possibility of getting her 400th win as LSU head coach:
“The thing that it probably says the most, it speaks for ability and longevity anytime you have x-number of wins. I didn’t rebound a ball or shoot a shot. I also didn’t turn it over any. But I have been fortunate to have had a lot of very good players come through this program. I’m very pleased with it. It speaks well for our program. Some of the things that are most important to me is — at the end of Thursday night — that we be 3-0 in the conference. I really do mean that. I’m not trying to sound fulfilling. I am very appreciative for all the good things that have happened. But I think more than anything else, I think it speaks for the kids that have gone through this program because they’re the ones who have busted their hind sides and paid the price and done the job. They’ve made this university very proud and made me very proud of them.”
On the match-up with Kentucky:
“Kentucky’s good. They remind me a little bit of the Ole Miss team and a little bit of Auburn. Their starting five is very good. Rita Adams is a good a point guard as there is in the conference. (SeSe) Helm’s a big, strong post player. They’re good. If you let them spot up they can knock the three down. They run the floor well and they’re big on the boards. I’m not trying to overdo or overplay them in anyway. It goes back to what we went over in November at the SEC meetings about the teams in the conference — everybody is good. It’s the proverbial ‘on any given night.’ I think (coach) Bernadette (Mattox) has one of the best teams that she has had in a very long time. I think the fact that they came back and beat Alabama is not a fluke. They work hard, they hustle, they pride themselves on hustle plays. Loose balls, they’re going to have them. It’s like everyone who comes in here to play us has nothing to lose. The target on our back is getting bigger. They’ll come in here and unload and we’re going to have be equal to that. We’re going to have to have the energy and it’s going to have mean as much to us as it means to them.”
