BATON ROUGE — LSU’s women’s basketball team moved a little closer to the No. 1 national ranking in this week’s national polls and maintained its No. 2 ranking in the Associated Press and No. 3 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll.

The Lady Tigers, who equaled the best start in school history at 14-0 with Southeastern Conference victories at Auburn and against Ole Miss last week, received three first-place votes and 1,047 points by the AP and trail top-ranked Duke by 47 points. LSU had only received one first-place vote in the previous weeks.

LSU also remained third in the nation in the coaches’ poll, receiving 914 points and one first-place vote. Duke (993 points) and UConn (948 points) are still ahead of the Lady Tigers. Duke, UConn and LSU are the only remaining undefeated teams in the top 25.

The Lady Tigers host Kentucky on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and head coach Sue Gunter is shooting for her 400th victory at LSU.
