BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Sophomore diver Jessica Wantz was named the SEC Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Wantz, a native of Houston, Texas, earned the honor for the first time in her career and is the first to win the award since Ross Buffington won it on Feb. 5, 2002.
Wantz won the 3-meter competition at the University of Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens, Ga., with a score of 535.35. That score, the best of her career, is the top mark in the conference this season and also qualified Wantz for the 2003 NCAA Championships.
The LSU women return to action on Jan. 17 when they face the University of Houston in Houston at 4 p.m. in a homecoming for Wantz.
