BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Rocio Fantilli was tabbed as one of the nation’s top women’s tennis players in both singles and doubles competition on Monday as the Lady Tigers’ junior earned preseason rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
“This is a big honor for Rocio,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “She definitely deserves to be among the nation’s best players and I actually think that she will end up even higher ranked than she is now.”
Fantilli, the Lady Tigers’ junior from Puerto Madryn, Argentina, was recognized as the No. 116 singles player in the nation on Monday and teamed with freshman Lauren Seaman to form the 60th-ranked doubles team.
Fantilli owns a 7-4 overall record in singles play on the season, while the combination of Fantilli and Seaman finished with a 6-2 mark during fall competition.
The LSU women’s tennis team will next be in action on January 25 as the Lady Tigers open their dual-match season against both Louisiana Tech and Centenary beginning at 9 a.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
