Tigers See Cotton Bowl For First Time Since 1966

The No. 25 LSU Tigers conducted an hour-long “walk-through” in businesslike fashion on the Cotton Bowl field under sunny skies on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers will tangle with ninth-ranked Texas Longhorns on New Year’s Day in the 67th SBC Cotton Bowl Classic.

The Tigers wore their traditional white jerseys and gold pants during the walk-through, as they posed for a team photo at midfield prior to practice. Following the photo the Tigers ran through their playbook on both offense and defense, worked on substitution situations and conducted a two-minute drill.

This was LSU’s first time to visit the Cotton Bowl stadium since Jan. 1, 1963, when the Tigers beat Texas 13-0. Tomorrow will be the first meeting between the schools since that day 40 years ago.

LSU is undefeated in three Cotton Bowl appearances, going 2-0-1 in those games. The Tigers played Arkansas to a scoreless tie in the 1947 Classic, defeated Texas in the 1963 Classic and defeated Arkansas 14-7 in the 1966 Classic.

LSU will be the visiting team in tomorrow’s game.

Kickoff for the 67th SBC Cotton Bowl Classic is slated for 10:10 a.m. tomorrow, Jan. 1. The game will be nationally televised by FOX Sports.
