Lloreda Named SEC Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU junior forward Jaime Lloreda was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for his play in wins over Prairie View A&M and No. 1-ranked Arizona this past week at the Maravich Assembly Center.

Lloreda, a 6-9 forward, had double-doubles in both games to put him in the league lead in the category with four. He had 12 points and 12 rebounds against Prairie View and 19 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks as LSU knocked off the Associated Press No. 1 team for the second time in school history, the third time overall LSU has won a game over a team ranked No. 1 in a poll.

Lloreda, last year’s national junior college player of the year, is averaging 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds a game, second in the league.

The honor is the first for an LSU player since Collis Temple III was the winner on Dec. 3, 2001 and it is the ninth time an LSU player has been honored since the 1993-94 season.

The Tigers next play on Saturday in the New Orleans Arena against Tulane in the second game of the Nokia Sugar Bowl Classic. It will be the first meeting between the teams since 1982.
