BATON ROUGE — LSU’s second-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team, coming off a 10-day layoff, returns to the court for the womenscollegehoops.com Classic on Wednesday and Thursday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
LSU will play Ohio in the second game on Wednesday at approximately 7 p.m., while New Orleans will face Louisville in the first game at 5 p.m. CST. The consolation game will pit the two losers from Wednesday’s games at 5 p.m. on Thursday with the championship at approximately 7 p.m. CST.
The Lady Tigers are 6-0 this season and last played on Dec. 7 when they defeated Alabama State 65-19 in the PMAC. Ohio is 1-5 and has dropped two straight, including an 81-47 loss to West Virginia on Saturday.
Louisville enters to tournament with a 2-3 record, while New Orleans is 1-4, including four straight losses.
This is the seventh in-season tournament LSU has hosted and the second-straight year it has been sponsored by www.womenscollegehoops.com. The Lady Tigers are 12-0 in their own tournament, including wins over Tennessee-Martin and Virginia Tech to take the title last season.
Freshman Seimone Augustus leads LSU into the tournament. The Baton Rouge native is averaging 16.3 points per game and ranks 11th in the nation with her 64.7 shooting percentage.
Following the tournament, LSU will host Southwest Texas State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST before taking a week off for the Christmas break.
