BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Eight LSU Tigers were named to the Coaches’ All-SEC Teams, with three on the first team and five more on the second team, the league office announced on Monday.
Senior linebacker Bradie James, junior defensive back Corey Webster and junior offensive lineman Stephen Peterman were each named to the first team. Senior running back Domanick Davis, sophomore wide receiver Michael Clayton, junior punter Donnie Jones and senior place kicker John Corbello were all named to the second team. Davis made the second team as a return specialist as well as a running back.
James was named First Team All-SEC for the second-straight season, the only repeat first-team selection from a year ago and earned the honor for the fourth time in his career. He was a first team selection in 2001, second team in 2000 and was a member of the Freshman All-SEC team in 1999. Davis, Corbello and Jones were each named All-SEC for the second time in their careers. Davis and Corbello made the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Freshman All-SEC team in 1999 and Jones was named to the All-SEC Freshman team in 2000.
Webster was named All-SEC for the first time in his career. The junior from Vacherie, La., converted from wide receiver to defensive back in the spring and led the SEC this season with seven interceptions. He had three interceptions in a 36-7 win at Florida, returning one 45 yards for a touchdown.
While the All-SEC squad had 17 first-team seniors, 13 were underclassmen, including nine juniors and four sophomores. Including the second-team, 15 seniors were selected, 11 juniors and four sophomores.
Georgia led all SEC teams with six players on the first-team followed by Alabama and Kentucky with four. 10 of the 12 SEC teams had a representative on the first-team All-SEC squad. All 12 SEC teams are represented on either the first or second teams.
Georgia, with five players on the second unit, had the most players on the squad with 11. LSU had eight players on both units, including three on the first team and five on the second team.
Georgia defensive end David Pollack, Vanderbilt running back/return specialist Kwane Doster, Arkansas offensive tackle Shawn Andrews and Georgia coach Mark Richt earned the top Southeastern Conference individual honors in the 2002 coaches’ awards voting, conducted by the league’s coaches.
There were no unanimous All-SEC selections.
