Denton, Roche Named to All-Louisiana XC Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Jarrett Roche and Katie Denton were named to the All-Louisiana Cross Country Team, it was announced Monday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Roche, a sophomore from New Orleans, La., was LSU’s top finisher in three of the six meets this season. He recorded a season-best seventh-place finish at the Tulane Invitational and was the first Tiger to cross the finish line at the NCAA South Central Regional.

A Baton Rouge native, Denton was the Lady Tigers’ top runner at the NCAA Regional meet running a personal best 6K time of 22:39. The sophomore had a season-best 10th-place showing at the LSU Invitational and was LSU’s top finisher at the New Mexico Invitational.

Also recognized by the LSWA was the University of New Orleans’ Ron Davis and Xavier’s Steve Kalbaugh as the Louisiana Women’s Co-Coaches of the Year; Kalbaugh also earned the men’s Coach of the Year honors. UNO’s Pavlina Vondrkova and McNeese State’s Kris Gilmore were each named the Louisiana Men’s and Women’s Runners of the Year, while Freshman of the Year accolades were given to Ruth Waller (McNeese State) and Prince Mumba (Xavier).
