Cotton Bowl Tickets On Sale Monday at 8 a.m.

BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team will face the 10th-ranked Texas Longhorns in the 67th annual SBC Cotton Bowl Classic on Jan. 1, 2003, in Dallas, the Cotton Bowl officials announced on Sunday afternoon. Tickets will go on sale at the LSU Ticket Office and on LSUsports.net beginning at 8 a.m. Monday morning.

The LSU ticket office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday until Friday during the week of Dec. 9-13. Parking passes — which cost $15 — are also available both online and at the Ticket Office. Tickets cost $75 each. Call 1-800-960-8587 or 225-578-2184 to purchase over the phone. Fax and e-mail orders will not be accepted. Tickets through the Cotton Bowl offices are sold out.

Tickets may be purchased with Visa, MasterCard, American Express or cash. Checks are not an acceptable method of payment.

A limited number of tickets will be reserved for LSU students. Fulltime LSU students — those carrying at least 12 credit hours — may bring their ID’s to be scanned at the LSU Ticket Office between Monday at Wednesday of this week. Pick-up for student tickets to the Cotton Bowl will be Thursday and Friday. Student tickets also cost $75.

More than 12,000 tickets were requested by LSU season ticket holders prior to today’s announcement. These tickets, along with all purchased for the Cotton Bowl, will be mailed via UPS during the week of Dec. 16-20.

This will be LSU’s first appearance in the Cotton Bowl since the Tigers beat then No. 2 ranked Arkansas, 14-7, in the 1966 classic, and LSU’s fourth overall (2-0-1). This year’s game will also mark the 40th anniversary of the 1963 contest between LSU and Texas, a game the Tigers won 13-0.

Texas leads the series with LSU, 8-7-1 and the teams haven’t met since the 1963 Cotton Bowl.

Texas will be making its 22nd trip to the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns have an 10-10-1 record in those games, most recently a 27-6 loss to Arkansas on Jan. 1, 2000.
