BATON ROUGE — Quarter-milers Siraj Williams and Marvin Stevenson have both signed letters of intent to compete for the LSU track team in 2004 it was announced today by Tiger head coach Pat Henry.
“We are excited to have both Siraj and Marvin join our program,” said Henry. “They are both tremendous athletes that will provide our team with quality depth in the 400.”
Williams, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, currently ranks fifth in the nation among high school runners in the 400 meters. He finished third in the event at the 2002 Class 5A Texas State Championships and owns a personal best mark of 46.92 seconds. Williams plans to major in business.
Stevenson comes to LSU from Elsik High School in Houston, Texas, where he earned runner-up honors in the 400 meters at the 2002 Class 5A Texas State Championships. Stevenson has posted a personal best mark of 47.10 seconds in the event and is currently ranked as the eighth best 400-meter high school runner in the nation. He plans to major in business.
The LSU track team begins the 2003 season Jan. 18 at the SEC West Challenge in Fayetteville, Ark.
