Former Track Athlete to Compete in Miss Louisiana Pageant

BATON ROUGE — Former LSU track and field athlete Dechelle Mack has been selected to participate in the Miss Louisiana USA 2003 Pageant to be held at The Heymann Performing Arts Theater in Lafayette, La., on Oct. 11-12, 2002.

Mack, a native of Marrero, La., is the daughter of Cheryl Easterling Poole and David B. Mack.

Each delegate will be judged in swimsuit, evening gown and personal interview. The winner will represent the Pelican State in the nationally televised Miss USA Pageant next year.

Among the winner’s many state prizes will be cash, a luxurious fur coat, full wardrobe, evening gown to be worn at the national pageant, a 14K gold Miss USA Crown Ring designed exclusively for state winners and the opportunity to interview with top commercial talent agencies.

The most exciting prize of all is an expense-paid trip to the telecast of the Miss USA Pageant, where state winners will compete for the prestigious title of Miss USA 2003 and traditionally $225,000 in cash and prizes.

Mack is a 2002 graduate of LSU with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

While attending LSU, Mack also was a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and Society of Women Engineers. She participated in many service projects with CHAMPS and was a contestant in the 2002 Miss LSU Pageant, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. 2000 Miss Black and Gold Pageant, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. 2001 Miss Omega Pageant.
