Davis, Webster Named LSWA Players of the Week

RUSTON, La. — Two players who led LSU to a victory in the Tigers’ Southeastern Conference opener, Domanick Davis and Corey Webster, were named the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association players of the week on Monday.

Davis and Webster were recognized for their play in LSU’s 31-13 win over Mississippi State on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

Davis returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball as he accumulated 278 total yards in the game.

The senior also rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries in the contest. The Breaux Bridge native also moved into second place in LSU history in career punt return yards (940) and kickoff return yards (1,761).

Webster led the Tiger defense as he intercepted two passes in the contest. The interceptions were the first of his career. Webster’s first interception occurred late in the third quarter and was returned 26 yards to set up an LSU field goal. The junior also intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter in the end zone to end a Mississippi State scoring threat. Webster also added three tackles and two passes broke up in the contest.

The LSWA players of the week are nominated by the sports information directors of the football playing institutions in the state of Louisiana. A panel of LSWA members across the state vote on the players of the week.
