Coaching Staff Names Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Domanick Davis and Rodney Reed on offense, Corey Webster and Bradie James on defense and the Tiger punt return team have been named the LSU players of the week by the coaching staff, Nick Saban announced on Sunday.

Offensively, Davis racked up a career-best 286 all-purpose yards, including tying a career-high with 122 rushing yards in LSU’s 31-13 win over Mississippi State. Davis scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter to give the Tigers the lead for good at 14-10.

Right tackle Rodney Reed graded out at 89 percent and led an offensive line that paved the way for 256 yards rushing for the Tigers.

On defense, Webster, a converted wide receiver who now plays cornerback, intercepted the first two passes of his career, one in the endzone to halt a Bulldog drive. Webster returned the other interception 26 yards to setup an LSU field goal in the third quarter.

Linebacker Bradie James led the Tigers with 11 tackles, including one tackle for a 5-yard loss. James also added one quarterback pressure in leading a Tiger defense that held Mississippi State to 249 total yards.

In addition to his offensive success on Saturday, Davis was equally as dangerous on special teams as he returned four punts for 128 yards, including a 78-yard return for a touchdown just two minutes into the contest. Davis returned a punt in the third quarter 37 yards and added a kickoff return for 36 yards. Through four games, the Tigers are averaging 17.6 yards on 18 punt returns, which ranks second in the SEC and eighth in the nation.
