Davis Ranked Second Nationally in All-Purpose Yards

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Domanick Davis has moved up to second in the nation in all-purpose yards with 197.2 yards per contest after his 286-yard outburst on Saturday against Mississippi State, the NCAA statistics revealed on Sunday.

Davis is less than a yard from leading the nation as Northern Illinois’ Michael Turner is averaging 198. yards per game.

Davis, who leads the Southeastern Conference in both all-purpose yards and punt return yards, has accumulated 789 all-purpose yards through LSU’s first four games. Davis has 313 punt return yards, 280 yards rushing, 153 yards on kickoff returns and 43 yards receiving.

Davis has touched the football 77 times this season and he’s averaging 10.2 yards per touch.

In addition to his second place ranking in all-purpose yards, Davis is fourth nationally with 19.6 yards per punt return and he’s 23rd in the nation in kickoff return average with 25.5 yards per return.

As a team, the Tiger defense leads the SEC and ranks fourth in the nation in three categories — total defense, pass defense and pass defense efficiency. Through four games, the Tigers are yielding just 235.0 yards per contest, including only 131.2 yards passing. LSU’s pass defense efficiency rating is 77.4.

LSU has allowed only one passing touchdown this year and the Tigers have now held its first four opponents to 250 yards or less. The last time an LSU team held four straight opponents to 250 yards or less was in 1970.

The Tigers also rank 10th nationally in scoring defense by allowing 14.0 points a game.

LSU returns to action on Saturday when they host Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised by TigerVision.
