BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team will host the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex in the Tigers’ final non-conference matchup before the beginning of Southeastern Conference play.

“It will be good to get another game in before SEC competition starts,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “We’ve been playing really well lately and this game will allow us to remain sharp. Alabama A&M is not going to be a pushover. They have a lot of talented players on their roster and they played us tough last season.”

LSU heads into Friday’s contest with a six-game winning streak and a 7-1 overall record. The Tigers have recorded five-consecutive shutouts and have not allowed a goal in a school-record 450:50 minutes. The previous record for longest time without allowing a goal was 365:00 set in 1995.

In its last five games, LSU blanked Loyola (N.O.), 7-0, Louisiana-Monroe, 4-0, Nicholls State, 9-0, McNeese State, 3-0, and Troy State, 7-0. The Tigers’ lone loss of the season came against 23rd-ranked Miami, 1-0, at the 2002 Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.

Alabama A&M enters Friday’s matchup with a bit of momentum after knocking off Alabama-Huntsville, 2-0, on Sunday. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs snapped Alabama-Huntsville’s eight-game winning streak at home at Charger Field.

“We’re just looking to play a fundamentally-sound game, get a win and escape without any injuries,” Fotopoulos said. “That’s been our main goal in each of our non-conference games so far, and we’ve done a good job of it. Tomorrow’s not going to be any different. We’re just going to go out and play the way that we have been playing.”

Last season, LSU escaped with a 1-0 overtime victory over Alabama A&M. It was the Tigers’ first road victory of the season and their second-straight overtime game. LSU and Louisiana-Monroe finished an in-state contest tied at 2-2.

The LSU soccer team will host Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. on Friday at the LSU Soccer Complex. The match is being promoted as the Bank One Club Soccer Night and will feature festivities for club soccer players with chances to win CD and DVD players, as well as television sets. Every club soccer player in attendance will also get an LSU soccer ball antenna topper.
