MADRID, Spain — Former LSU All-Americans Walter Davis and Alleyene Francique concluded their 2002 European track tours with impressive showings at the IAAF World Cup competition over the weekend. Davis came home with a second-place finish in the triple jump competition, while Francique won gold as a member of the Americas’ 4×400-meter relay team.
Davis won the silver medal in the triple jump, leaping 56-6 ¼, to finish just shy of world-record holder Jonathan Edward’s meet-winning mark (56-10 ½).
Francique ran the second leg on the Americas’ 4×400-meter relay team that held off the foursome from the United States for the event victory. Americas’ blistering mark of 2:59.19 is currently the fastest time in the world in the event this year and proved to be just fast enough to outdistance the Unites States who posted a second-place finish with a time of 2:59.21.
