BATON ROUGE — The LSU coaching staff has singled out four players — LaBrandon Toefield and Solomon Lee on offense, Demetrius Hookfin on defense and Domanick Davis on special teams — as the Tigers’ players of the week following Saturday’s 33-7 victory over Miami (Ohio).
Offensively, Toefield led an LSU ground game with 117 rushing yards on 17 carries. Lee, who had one carry for six yards, served as Toefield’s blocking back on many of his 17 rushing attempts. Toefield has now rushed for 100-plus yard seven times in his career and the Tigers are 7-0 in those games.
On defense, Hookfin led an LSU defense that held Miami’s potent air attack to only 195 yards passing. Hookfin had one tackle in the contest and broke up a career-best five passes.
Davis continues to be a threat on special teams for the Tigers as he racked up 116 yards on five punt returns, including a 57-yard return in the first quarter that set up LSU’s first touchdown. Davis finished the game with 202 all-purpose yards, 51 of which came on the ground and another 35 came on three receptions.
In addition, Davis’ 116 punt return yards ranks as the eighth highest total in school history and its the most by an LSU player since Eddie Kennison’s 141 yards against Mississippi State in 1994.
