HOUSTON — LSU’s doubles team comprised of junior Bryan Fisher and sophomore Peter Richman advanced to the final of the A Flight Doubles tournament on Saturday, as the pair knocked off Tulsa’s combination of Robert Searle and Cody Jackson, 8-5, in the 2002 Continental Airlines Cup hosted by Rice University.
“Bryan and Peter played really well today,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “They served the ball extremely well and they made some timely returns against a good Tulsa doubles team. It is a big confidence boost for them as a team and it will help their confidence for the season.”
In singles play, LSU’s Frank Green, Jason Hazley, Brandon Nicholson, Richman and Fisher all picked up wins on Saturday. All eight Tiger players participating in the singles competition own 1-1 records.
“Everybody on our team has gotten a win so far this weekend,” Brown said. “They have also all lost a match and sometimes that is more beneficial for a player. It is always good to gain some confidence, but a lot of times a loss can be a big motivational factor. It’s been a good weekend for us.”
The 2002 Continental Airlines Cup hosted by Rice University will resume on Sunday at 11 a.m. beginning with the singles championship matches here at the Kingwood Country Club. The championship doubles matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
