BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tigers basketball team was selected preseason No. 8 by Slam Magazine’s preseason poll released earlier this week.
The Lady Tigers are behind No. 1 Duke, Tennessee, Kansas State, Texas, Connecticut, Georgia and Purdue. Texas Tech was selected ninth and Stanford rounded out the top 10.
LSU returns all five starters from last year’s team and add the nation’s second-best recruiting class, highlighted by Baton Rouge native Seimone Augustus. The Lady Tigers posted an 18-12 record in 2001-02 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling at Colorado.
Three Lady Tigers opponents for the upcoming 2002-03 season are among Slam Magazines’ Top 10. LSU will host No. 5 Texas in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Dec. 28 and then host No. 6 Georgia on Feb. 2 and No. 2 Tennessee on Feb. 23.
The Lady Tigers begin their exhibition season on Nov. 8 by playing host to the Basketball Travelers at 7 p.m. in the PMAC. The regular season begins on Nov. 22 when LSU visits Arizona.
