BATON ROUGE — The LSU Athletic Department and Community Coffee Company announced on Tuesday a corporate sponsorship agreement that will aid LSU’s powerful Olympic Sports program.
Community Coffee and CC’s Coffee has committed $50,000 to the LSU Olympic Sports program for the 2002-03 seasons, it was announced by LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman and Matt Saurage, Director of Business Development for Community Coffee Company, at the Community Coffee offices in Baton Rouge.
This marks the first time that LSU has had a single designated Olympic Sports corporate sponsor.
In addition to the financial gift, both Community Coffee and CC’s Coffee will have a strong presence at many of the events with both new products and many of the signature drinks and coffees that customers know and enjoy. One of the key objectives of Community Coffee sponsoring the Olympic programs is to introduce and extend the company’s brands to a whole new generation of coffee drinkers.
“We are pleased and excited to continue our long-standing relationship with LSU,” said Saurage. “Our support of education at LSU as well as other schools and universities has been a long standing tradition that we are very proud of and we view this new relations as yet another way to help education — particularly scholar athletes.”
“We are thrilled and excited to have Community Coffee and CC’s as a sponsor of our Olympic Sports teams,” said Bertman. “We have world-class athletes and top-notch coaches throughout our Olympic Sports program, and they work just as hard as those in our more publicized sports, yet they often go unnoticed. To have someone like Community Coffee and CC’s step forward and help us promote these sports tells me we are making major strides in giving these fine athletes the recognition they deserve.”
Coaches from several Olympic sports and some of their athletes were on hand to hear the news and Women’s basketball Coach Sue Gunter had the following comment: “I don’t know any company in Louisiana more connected to our culture, or is more respected than Community Coffee. It makes a statement about their commitment to not only LSU, but to the Olympic Sports.”
The first home Olympic Sports are set for this week with the LSU soccer team hosting Loyola of New Orleans at the LSU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and the LSU volleyball team hosts Florida A&M Friday at 7 p.m. at the Maravich Assembly Center. The LSU soccer team will also host Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. on Friday.
