BATON ROUGE — Quinn Stewart, an outfielder from Odessa (Texas) Junior College, has signed a national letter-of-intent with the LSU baseball program.
Stewart has enrolled at LSU, and he will be eligible to play this spring when the Tigers begin the 2003 season Feb. 7 against Northwestern State in Alex Box Stadium.
Stewart becomes the third junior college signee to begin his LSU career with three years of eligibility remaining. Other JC transfers who will play as sophomores this season are outfielder Ryan Patterson of Texarkana (Texas) College and outfielder Bruce Sprowl of Shelton State (Ala.) College.
Stewart, a 6-2, 190-pound right-handed batter, hit .420 last season for Odessa JC with 18 homers, 21 doubles, two triples and 74 RBI. He earned first-team all-conference and third-team all-America recognition.
Stewart enjoyed a stellar prep career at Dallas Christian High School in Mesquite, Texas, where he received the NAACP Academic Excellence Award.
