James Expected to be First Tiger Drafted Saturday

Bradie James Named LSWA Player of the Week

RUSTON, La. — LSU linebacker Bradie James and Louisiana Tech quarterback back Luke McCown were selected as Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association players of the week on Tuesday.

James led LSU’s defense with 19 tackles on Sunday in a 26-8 loss at No. 16 Virginia Tech. The senior middle linebacker also provided three quarterback hurries, one sack and one tackle for loss as the Tiger defense limited the Hokie offense to just 231 yards of total offense.

The West Monroe native was making his first career start at middle linebacker for LSU after moving from the strong side linebacker position.

McCown rallied Tech from an 18-point deficit in the final minute of the third quarter to post a come-from behind win over Oklahoma State at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

The junior completed 38 of 66 passes for 448 yards and three touchdowns in Tech’s 39-36 win over Oklahoma State.

The Jacksonville, Texas native’s final touchdown pass occurred with one minute to play when he threw a 23-strike on fourth down and 10 for the deciding score.

The 400-yard game was McCown’s seventh in his career in only 20 starts.

The LSWA players of the week are nominated by the sports information directors of the football playing institutions in the state of Louisiana.

Other offensive players nominated: Tulane running back Mewelde Moore, Nicholls State running back Travis Felder, Grambling State wide receive Calvin Colquitt.

Other defensive player’s nominated: McNeese State linebacker Roderick Royal, Tulane cornerback Lynaris Elpheage, Grambling State free safety Denmark Reed, Louisiana-Monroe free safety Chris Harris and Northwestern State defensive end Roy Locks.
